One way to look at it is: do houses have electric central heating? Answer: Not very often.

Not even where there is no mains gas - people usually have gas or oil delivered by tanker.

Heating one room with an elecric heater might be cheaper than heating the whole house with a gas central heating. But you could also turn the radiators down/off in the rest of the house.

And then there are some easy solutions to warmth that are free or cheap: wear another sweater. Put on a hat. Make sure that you shut the curtains when it’s dark. Shut the windows and stop up draughts.

As for cooking, cooking with gas is generally cheaper than electricity because energy is used to heat the element and then wasted when it cools again after you have turned it off. Most serious cooks prefer gas because it is far more controllable. But if you are changing an electric cooker for a gas, it will take you years to recovor the cost of the new cooker from lower energy costs.

I definately prefer gas - primarilly for its cost! I've had both in the past and leaving your heating on all day when youre on electric is very expensive!!

Whats your opinion?

Nice one, Jazmin. Unfortunately it's something I'm not a learned guru on. I prefer gas because of its instant nature, but I realise there's far more to it than that.

Anybody else have any veiws? Which do you prefer Jazmin?
